As your baby reaches one year old, you will notice various exciting stages of development. Between nine and 12 months, babies learn about cause and effect, and also become adept at expressing themselves, both vocally and with facial expressions.
As their memory develops, babies will learn that their mother is still somewhere even if they cannot see them. And they use their expressive skills to encourage their mother to return when she’s out of sight.
Between the ages of nine and 12 months, babies also begin to move around a lot more – as many parents know – in particular crawling and standing up. They frequently repeat actions to understand them; this repetition is also good for their confidence.
Parents can support their child during this time by constantly communicating with them to develop these skills. Engaging with your child when he or she is playing or repeating actions will encourage them to further develop their play, which will help to enhance these newfound skills.
