You might not get snow and reindeer in Singapore during December, but it’s still a wonderful place to be during the festive season. Singapore knows how to celebrate in style and at Christmas time it’s no different. Think about it. Christmas is all about good food, family and shopping – three things that we Singaporeans love!
Every year, the famous shopping belt of Orchard Road is spectacularly lit up for all to enjoy. Across the impressive dining scene, Yuletide menus and epic Christmas banquets serve up huge roast turkeys with all the trimmings and pandan coconut and chendol log cake. But it’s the kids that get the biggest kick out of Christmas, with a whole host of fun days out and Christmas activities to keep them busy.
Here are our top picks of what to do with the kids this Christmas…
10 November – 1 January
We mentioned Orchard Road above, and with good reason. It really is the hub of all Christmas activity in Singapore. From the Orchard Gateway and Orchard Central to ION Orchard, FORUM and Tanglin Mall, the buildings are ablaze with light. The Christmas Village is an abundance of amazing food, amusement rides and stand out performances, while Jingle Jangle Christmas and A Magical Christmas Tale can offer some great savings.
17 November – 25 December
Care Bears, Forever Friends and Paddington are joining the team at Suntec City for a whole host of beary good activities. Catch the Beary Parade, enjoy live shows, take part in a Christmas workshop, meet and greet the bears, join the bears for a tea party, and complete your Christmas shopping at the same time! Spend to get Beary Gifts, from vouchers and parking coupons to an exclusive Beary Totebrella.
1- 26 December | 4pm – 11pm
Spanning 57,000 square metres, Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay is Singapore’s biggest, brightest, and most magical experience for kids. Be greeted by a giant luminous Christmas Tree, skating under the stars, carnival games and acrobatic performances by Circus Abyssinia Present Ethiopian Dreams. Explore the festive Christmas market, take a pick from dining experiences curated by SAVOUR, and visit Santa in his grotto.
1 December – 1 January
Around every corner you’ll find a little Christmas magic at Universal Studios Singapore. Visit Santa’s Workshop and help him prepare for the holiday season at the Mail Room, Mrs Claus’ Kitchen and the Toy Factory. Immerse yourself in the streets of New York for Santa’s Sleigh Ride parade (5 times a day). Follow Oscar as he transforms from a Christmas Grouch and search for a Christmas Star in an after dark spectacle combining whimsical characters with aerial acrobatics, special effects and projection mapping.
1 December – 1 January
This “Fishmas” you can celebrate at S.E.A Aquarium as Santa and his elves dive in to take their merry-making through the waters. Join Scrooge and get creative with recycled materials, get up close with the Aquarium’s friendly Manta and Shark mascots, and revel in the festive spirit as you marvel at over 100,000 marine animals, more than 1,000 species, and 50 different habitats. Also in December you can visit the Aquarium after 5pm.
1 – 31 December
This sprawling Christmas bazaar is spread across a 10,000 square foot space in CityLink Mall and features everything from handmade toys to luxury silk lingerie, sleepwear and fragrances. Illuminated with your bright and hopeful wishes, the City features an assortment of activities from creative workshops to Christmas sales and promotions. Visit the art and craft area with the kids and encourage them to write down a wish. You can then hang that wish on the City’s Wish Tree for your chance to win a present.
9 December
The First Sustainable Christmas Market is a free event that advocates sustainability. Held at the Mercure Singapore on Stevens, it aims to promote ethical products, edible produce, and craft by local startups. 23 exclusive vendors will be showcasing their works and an exciting array of activities are planned for both adults and kids.
9 December | 7:30am – 11am
Children from four years of age can take part in the fourth Santa Run for Wishes 2km or 5km run. A full day of festivities, the run kicks off in the morning and all registration fees and donations go to Make-A-Wish Foundation Singapore. Once the kids have run, let them celebrate with all the Santas at the exciting carnival.
15 – 17 December
For something a bit special (although not so good for restless little bottoms) the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Concert is a sparkling collection of musical treasures for the yuletide season. Kids will love the sing-a-long segment where you can join in the chorus.
23 – 25 December
For dinner on 23 December, as well as brunch and dinner on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Oscar’s already famous Christmas buffet is further enhanced at the carving station with traditional Beef Wellington and Roast USA Maple Duck. There’s a “live” charcoal BBQ station, a Dessert House stuffed with decadent delights, and “live” stations serving crepes and flambe Baked Alaska. For the kids there’s a magnificent 13-ft Christmas Tree featuring over 500 red Conrad Singapore bears, Christmas Carols by the University of Singapore Choir, a visit from Santa with photo opportunity, and even a lollipop wall!
Christmas in Singapore is a festive affair that’s fun for every age, so whether you’re shopping, tree spotting, light marvelling, sitting on Santa’s knee or trying your hand at some Christmas craft, there’s plenty of opportunities to get festive this Christmas. To make sure you enjoy it all, stock up on some Bellamy’s Organic snacks to fuel the kids for exploring.
