We often get asked at Bellamy’s what is the difference between baby foods? Whilst it’s not possible to look at other manufacturer’s recipes, generally we have some clues as to where some source their product and that can be quite revealing.
Baby food is a very competitive market. In Australia there are a number of manufacturers providing product to what is quite a small number of mothers each year. Competition is good because it drives value for consumers, but it doesn’t mean that a cheaper product is the same as a more expensive one.
Making baby food is a lot like home cooking. Brands can choose quality fresh ingredients to make the sort of nutritious home-cooked meals you’d make yourself, or they can make like a cheap restaurant and skimp using cheaper ingredients and imported cereals and vegetables from Asia. Baby rice is a good example.
Baby rice is usually a baby’s first taste of solid food because it’s gentle on the stomach and easy to digest. So, to our mind, it should be as pure and wholesome as it can be.
Bellamy’s Organic Rice is premium grade whole rice, 100% certified organic. As you can imagine, it’s more expensive. In fact it’s three times more expensive. But you get what you pay for.
Our process gently flakes the whole rice, dries it and packs it off into airtight, resealable foil pouches to lock in the goodness. What could be simpler?
While we’re on the subject of quality, perhaps you’d like to know about the apples in our fruit snacks. One of our favourite suppliers is from Tasmania, R & R Smith. A father and son farming family with long experience, so these apples aren’t just any old variety, but the very best selected apples that retain their flavour when dried and produces that fabulous snap! We believe you can taste the difference.
So, the one thing you can be sure of when you buy our products is that we never skimp on quality and that’s how we back up our claim to give your little one a pure start to life.
