Opting for organic food can benefit your family’s health and the environment. Sustainable Baby Steps shares some of the primary benefits of organic food for you and the Earth:
1) Organic food is richer in nutrients than non-organic food, according to a 2008 State of Science Review.
2) Organic food helps to keep chemicals and pesticides out of your body.
3) Once your taste buds adjust to food without added sugar and other nasties, you’ll love how much better organic food tastes.
4) You’ll probably also eat less as your body is happy with the nutrients it receives, rather than asking for more as it does with nutritionally-deficient junk food.
5) The use of pesticides can lead to “super-bugs” that evolve to be resistant to chemicals and destroy large swathes of farmland; organic growing practices by definition avoid these pesticides.
6) Lack of pesticides also helps animals on farms to stay healthy and free from exposure to harmful chemicals.
7) The environment isn’t adversely impacted through the use of organic practices, as it can be with chemically-treated crops that threaten groundwater and other areas.
